For Carolina Prime, inspiration started with a big smile, a loud voice and a huge heart!
Hartland Monahan was a huge part of the Carolina Prime success, a driving force behind the creation of the program itself. For those of you new here, Hartland, the father of our owner and operator, Shane Monahan, was a staple at the facility and on the fields. He helped Shane build the original vision, mission and how the program could build success among the community youth athletes.
Rather than be out on the golf course, Hartland spent his time helping build the initial phase of the hitting facility. He watched as the outside cages went up and were complete! His presence was felt at the facility every day for 9 months, as he created and worked on his passion, his Winter Wonderland Village! He spoke about this village to the children that came for lessons and practices. He explained the vision, the labor of love and the reason of the season. You can still visit his village on Hilton Head Island around the holiday season!
He was proud of his accomplishments in life, but most proud of the family he built with his amazing wife, Linda. He spoke proudly of his kids and grandchildren. Being a family of athletes, Hartland shared his love of the game with everyone around him. Talking baseball, situations and memories he carried with him along the journey.
Always a positive force and never letting the negative seep in, he impacted so many lives within our community.
He is truly missed daily and although the void of his laugh can be felt during the season, we know he is there, looking down watching with pride as we build Carolina Prime and grow our youth athletes to compete with their hearts not just skills.
The PFP on the sleeve of our Prime Players stands for Playing for Poppy, as our older teams knew him and loved him as “Poppy” when he attended games.
He is a true testament to inspiration comes from within, although not here with us physically, he carries us through the next part of our journey and will forever be the strongest part of our foundation.
